Origins of the Air Max Plus shoe

Nike's revolutionary Air-Sole unit was introduced to the Nike footwear range in 1978. In 1987, the Nike Air Max 1 was the first shoe to feature visible air cushioning in the heel. Now, as well as feeling the comfort of Air-Sole technology, everyone could also see it in action. In 1998, the Air Max Plus introduced a cushioning system in which the Air-Sole units were adapted to certain parts of the foot, providing runners with greater stability and support. The shoe's sunset-inspired colours and wavy lines, reminiscent of windswept sandy beaches, have become a benchmark and a cultural phenomenon.
